Allow Less Secure Access for Gmail Inbox
Important: The "Allow less secure apps" setting is no longer available in Google Accounts. Google has phased out support for less secure, password-only access to enhance security, so enabling this option is no longer possible.
To connect your Gmail account to third-party applications (such as email clients or SMTP tools), use one of the following secure alternatives:
Option 1: Use "Sign in with Google" (OAuth 2.0)
If the application supports it, select Sign in with Google or OAuth 2.0 in the app's account configuration settings. This is the most secure method and does not require sharing your Google password with the application.
Option 2: Use an App Password (If OAuth is not supported)
If your application does not support "Sign in with Google," you must use an App Password. This creates a unique 16-character password specifically for that application.
Prerequisites
- You must have 2-Step Verification turned on for your Google Account.
Steps to Create an App Password
- Go to your Google Account Security settings.
- Under the "How you sign in to Google" section, select 2-Step Verification.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select App passwords.
- Enter a name for the app (e.g., "Hoory AI" or "Custom SMTP") and click Create.
- A 16-character password will be displayed. Copy this code immediately, as you won't be able to see it again.
- Enter this 16-character code into your app's password field instead of your regular Google account password.
